Wonky Star Quilt

My good friend Lauren was married last week, after only a month-long engagement. About a week into that time, I decided that I wanted to make her a quilt for her wedding and managed to crank this baby out in time to drop it off when they got home from their honeymoon a few days ago.
My poor husband was subjected to a month of me ignoring him, listening to Harry Potter books and sewing like a maniac every time I had the chance.

I used green and blue fabrics, in Lauren and Tom's wedding colors. And I followed this awesome {wonky-star tutorial.}
The quilt is queen sized, each block is 12 inches wide, so the quilt is 7x8 feet, and there are 28 stars and 28 fabric blocks.

If you're interested in making your own, here's the handy math that I did:
For every half a yard of fabric: You can make 3 solids squares (at 12.5") and about enough squares to make 2.5 stars.
So to make the top of a queen-sized quilt, you need about 10 half-yards (or 5 yards) of colored fabrics and assorted scraps, and enough white... which I didn't measure. But you probably need only 3 or so yards of white.
The back of the quilt, I used about 8 yards of fabric, which is pretty standard for queen-sized quilts.

Travis was pretty sad to see this quilt go, since he decided that it's his favorite quilt I've made yet.
I don't think that he was quite comforted when I promised to make one for our family in red and yellow, since he apparently only wants me to make blue, green, and gray quilts from now on.
Sigh. Too bad, Travis.

It's beautiful Becky. The colors look awesome. I am also proud of you! With twin 2 year olds you did this! I must've had more energy when I was your age.

That is so beautiful. It might be my favorite that you have ever made, too. Is this the first time you quilted it yourself? Actually I think I remember you saying you did the boys, too. I've thought about asking you if I made a quilt top if I could also send it to your grandma and pay her to do the quilting, but I thought that would be weird. My grandmas passed away when I was a teenager, though, so that's kind of sad and maybe she would feel bad for me.

I wish we were friends and neighbors. Then you could teach me to make *my own* quilt (I've had a three year engagement and I am 100% sure none of my friends are making me quilts. But maybe they don't think we'll ever really get married.) and plus I listen to Harry Potter tapes all the time anyway.

Oh!! This is important. Read "Beholding Bee". It is a middle grade novel that my six year old daughter and I just read and it was magical and amazing. It is a new release. SO WONDERFUL. It has a pig named Cordelia in it.
