Happy Friday!

These two ridiculous children would like to wish you a happy weekend.

In case you're wondering what's happening in these extremely silly pictures:
The boys woke up early in the morning and put on their swimsuits. Without letting me comb their hair in any way, they ran outside and filled a bucket with water.
Micah then dunked the top of his head in the water and then patted it down.
So the top of his head is a soggy old man's combover and the back is a crazy rat's nest of bedhead.

They sat down together and started laughing and giggling.
"Can you make a goofy face?" I asked.
This glorious mess was my reward.

Oh, these goofy boys.
They are my favorite and my best.

Some Inspiration for your Weekend

These are the things have have been inspiring me this week.

A commencement speech by one of my (many) favorite authors, Neil Gaiman, about making good art.

Or how about this speech by Elaine S. Dalton about how great it is to be a woman:

Or a speech by my husband at TedxBYU from last year:

Happy Friday

I've been pretty busy the last few days.
Because if you thought that having two-year old twins was chaotic and crazy, then you wouldn't freaking believe two-year old twins being denied their bottles.

Some days they don't nap. Some days they nap three times a day for a half hour at a time.
The problem with these crazy naptimes isn't just that I have two less hours to get stuff done, the problem is that when the boys are asleep, they are restless and wake at the slightest sound. (Like the sound of me (in the kitchen) opening a bag of flour. For real.)
And when they are awake they are mostly screaming, clingy, and all-around monstrous.
Don't be fooled by the adorable pictures below. While I'm typing this (and ignoring my kids) Grey is holding on to Micah's leg with pincer hands and Micah is smacking him in the face and both of them are screaming.
So. Good parenting over here.

I hope that your Friday is excellent. As for me, I can't wait to have Travis home for the next two days so there's someone here to help take care of these adorable little wretches.
Oh, and notice the pjs? We've mostly been in pjs all day every day this week.

Packing

Sorry that I wasn't here yesterday. I was packing, scrubbing, sorting, and list-crossing-off like nobody's business.

My parents get here today, and at 4 the U-Haul will get picked up. We'll load it on up tonight from 4-6ish (please stop by if you're willing to help!) and after a dinner break, we'll probably keep loading that night. Then I'll come inside and scrub my empty apartment, so I don't have to come back later and do it.
On Saturday morning we are leaving for Salt Lake, never to return! (Okay, we'll probably return.)
Also, that yard sale is cancelled. As it turns out, holding a yard sale on the day that you move is STRESSFUL.
But other than dropping off most of my stuff at DI instead of selling it... I am ROCKING THIS! I will kick your butt, Moving.

I'll be back on Monday, reporting from the Pitcher's new house in Salt Lake City!

Fact: It is Friday {Christmas In July!}

Fact: it is Friday: Where I talk about myself. On Fridays.
I don't talk about my babies, unless I want to, which sometimes I might. But mostly Fact: it is Friday is when I'm going to tell you something you maybe didn't know about me.
Or perhaps a story from my bucktoothed-childhood or bratty teenage years.

(Had you forgotten about Friday Facts? It's been a while! Click the button to the right to see more Friday Facts!)

Becky Fact 20: Christmas is my favorite holiday, so I celebrate it at least twice a year.

Do you guys celebrate Christmas in July? I do. Of course.

There comes a time every year, in the peak of July when I'm SO HOT I want to die. I think about the lovely pleasures that come with fall, like cool breezes, warm cookies, adorable leg warmers and sweaters.
I crave it. Then I think of how excited I am for fall to merge into winter, seeing my breath when I go on walks, wearing cozy, furry hats, decking the halls, and decorating the Christmas tree!
And suddenly, I WANT OUT. I'm done with summer. I hate it. It's too hot! I want the cold. I need it. I want to stick my head it the freezer and think about Miracle on 34th Street.  I start knitting like crazy in preparation for chillier days.

And this last week has been so glorious, it's like the Universe has been rewarding me for enduring blast-ended summer for so long.  It's been cool and rainy. It's been windy.
It's been cold enough in our house that I wore jeans and baked cookies. COOKIES, I tell you! In the summer!
I had my oven on and made Christmas cookies! {THESE cookies!}
(That's kind of a big deal.)

And I've been whistling and humming Christmas songs all week month. Now, as everyone knows, (or perhaps, as I made up... but it seems like a real thing) Christmas in July should be celebrated on July 25th.
So that's the day that I allow myself to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Rudolf" and "Elf" and "Merry Christmas Charlie Brown," and "Miracle on 34th Street," and "The Santa Clause" and.... well let's just say, it's a marathon of all the greatest Christmas films of all time.
And, that day is in less than a week. So I highly urge you all to make Christmas plans for next week.
And listen to Christmas music on Pandora. The perfect Christmas music station is created as follows:
Create three separate Christmas Stations, one based on Sufjan Steven's Christmas Album, one based on "The Christmas Song" by probably Frank Sinatra, maybe another member of the rat pack? Or possibly Nat King Cole, you know... and the third station, based on The Mormon Tabernacle Choir (Holiday). THEN do that thing where you combine your stations.

Then you get all the awesome Christmas music, and none of the "Grandma got ran over by a reindeer" Christmas music.

Anyway. Knit me a Weasley sweater and send me a mysterious cloak that used to be my father's... and I might even believe it was Christmas this week.

P.S. Check out my Christmas Board on Pinterest {HERE}

P.P.S. If you had a cloak that used to be my dad's it really would be mysterious... he's definitely not the cloak wearing type... in fact, I seem to recall him mocking me endlessly when I wore a cloak to school...

Haha, please share a Friday Fact!

Summer days look like this:

Happy Friday, my lovelies.
Do you have a filthy and disgusting mudpit in your front yard?

Or perhaps a tasty basil plant, from which you add leaves to your kitchen concoctions, or just, you know, eat right off the plant?

If not, I would highly suggest getting some.
Babies LOVE them.
You'll be a baby whisperer, or a baby pied piper.

And also, you'll have to wash 4 or more pairs of baby shorts every day.
But that's the price of summertime, I suppose.

Identical?

What? You think these children are identical or something?
They look totally different. Not at all alike. They aren't even dressed the same.
Oh, I mean.... nope. They look pretty much exactly the same in these pictures.

Although, before I labeled these, I said to Travis, "Can you tell who this is a picture of?"
And after less than a second he said, "Yep. It's Micah on the left, and Grey on the right."
Seriously? He didn't assume it was the same baby? They're standing in the same spot, wearing the same outfit!
Oh, him.

Fact: It is Friday {Journals}

Becky Fact 19: I am a serial journaler.  This blog not included.

I recently got the urge to pull out all my old journals, and flip through them.
And then, I got the urge to find and share a real journal entry with you. From, you know, when I was 13. Big breath. Mispellings included, doodles, unfortunately, not included. Here goes:

Sunday, Jan 27, 2002
Dear Journal,
The last two days I haven't written because I like to wright right before I go to bed And Ive gotten home late. after Midnight
Yesterday Amelia got baptised. Kayla came home with us. Dad took us to LORD OF THE RINGS. I LOVED that movie! It was sooo good. Legolas The Elf is ssooooooooooooooooooo very, very, very, very, very, very, very, really, really, really Super Duper, Way WAY ((((CUTE)))))
Even though he had long hair, he still looked AWESOME!!
He looked about 15, but hes probably the same age as Renn. Oh I hope not.
When we got to the theather we paid for the 7:00 show, But there wasn't one. So we have to wait an hr. Me and Kayla got some pictures done in the photo both, and I heart them (and the elf.) Hehe, he was GORGEOUS! I love the elf.
Becky Froelich

Okay. You convinced me. Here's another one from a few months later:

Wednesday March 6, 2002
Dear journal,
...
At school today I did nothing fun. School is so boring. Although, I did write a report on how the school wastes our money. Shane P looks funny, he shaved his head for swimming a couple of days and a week ago, about. Now his head is prickley, before it looked and felt like a hard boiled egg.
 I told him so.
Mom thinks I love Mitchell D I don't but he's fun to be around. Mom thinks he is just like me but a guy. She doesn't know him.
Oh, I wish I looked like a 13 year old. I don't look that old. I look 11 in the face but 9/10 in the body. I hate it. I wish had at least hit puberty. I don't want my period or anything, I just wish I was fuller. Actually, I don't. I guess I just wish I wasn't a (flat) skinny pole. I wish people would stop treating me like the baby I'M NOT and calling me a baby. Then mom says "You would want Jesus to call you sweet baby Becky, the little dear."
But kids at school are far from Christ they are istead high, or stoned.
The other day I came home from school and Grandma Mary was here. I was grumpy and Grandma goes, "What's wrong? Oh, I know! Now don't feel bad about that, Becky! I have lots of friends who belong to the itty bitty titty club!"
Then she told me, mom and her had recently been discussing my puberty. Thanx mom!
...
Bye, me

Okay, that entry was actually about 4 pages longer. But that's the good part. :)
I really like that sometimes I sign my full name to my entries.
And Thanks with an X.
Classic.

Haha, please share a Friday Fact!
and leave me a link if you do!

Fact: It is Friday {Car Crashes}

Becky Fact 16: I have never hit a deer while driving.

So are you thinking to yourself "That is a non-fact" or perhaps "it's not normal to have hit deer," or maybe "But I've definitely heard you say that you hit a deer while driving. Were you lying?"

Okay. Yes. If I told you that I hit a deer while driving it was a lie.
BUT I have excuses. First of all, I grew up in a small town (a farming community for goodness sake!) in Minnesota.
I know literally dozens of people who have hit deer.
I have almost hit deer on numerous occasions but my superb driving skills saved me (and those stories are BORING.)
I have hit bunnies, pheasants and once a wild turkey!
And frankly, starting a story with "My uncle was driving a truck to the Boundary Waters," is much less engaging than saying "I was driving to the Boundary Waters."
All the details are the same, except whether or not I was actually in the driver's seat... or in the truck at all.

I'm sorry to have lied to you.

So, to make up for it, here is the story of every single time that I have crashed a car:
1. On the day that I got my permit, my dad allowed me to drive once around the block in his giant two-ton pickup truck... or should I have said 3/4s of the way around the block?
I drove the truck into a retaining wall.  (I forgot which was the brake and which was the gas, sheesh.)
The wall was only a few feet high, and the truck tried to jump the wall. Consequently, I also learned how to change a tire.... something I am now quite excellent at after many, many times.

2. Soon after receiving my license, I was driving with my sister Lisa and friend Chelsea on a slippery road. We were rocking out to the radio. Showing off our superb dance moves and ... um... head banging? I rear-ended a truck in front of me, and their hitch went straight through my bumper. We pulled off to the side of the road, decided it was an accident, and since I was at fault, and the only one with any damage - we just drove away. We didn't even exchange phone numbers.
I went home and begged forgiveness. It was snowing! It was slippery! I fishtailed! BLACK ICE!
And all was well.
UNTIL (bum bum buuuuum) my mother found a .mov file on the family computer labeled "Car Crash" that my sister had foolishly uploaded (and titled? Seriously, Lisa?). Because apparently she had been filming when we hit the truck... oops?
Lisa was filming me singing, head banging and fist pumping at the camera, followed by screaming, a dropped camera, and Chelsea saying "Oh, your mom is going to kill you."
Busted. Luckily, my parents found this to be pretty hilarious and I was mostly mocked as punishment.

3. I went to a party late at night (and no, I was not drinking or consuming drugs. Come on, people.) and drove my dad's stick shift down the loooong, thin, dirt, unlit driveway to my friend's house so I didn't have to park on the street and walk through snow. However, when my curfew came and I obediently tried to go home I found that her dark driveway was impossible to back down, and that the ground fell away sharply into a ditch on either side. Nevertheless, I prevailed.
And I failed.
I backed the car off the driveway and into the yard, where the bottom of the car got stuck on a tree stump. I didn't know the car was wedged in, and assumed that my inability to just drive back up the hill (even with people pushing) was due to my inexperience with manual shift. So I kept trying, and trying, and trying until I had to call my dad and eventually a tow-truck to yank the car out of the yard.
And to a... car place... what's that place where you get cars fixed called?
**Edit: a mechanic. I remembered.

4. Once, when I was quickly backing down my driveway, I smashed into our mailbox... across the street.
Tail lights out. No other harm done. Hardly memorable.

5. Driving to school one day with Lisa and a neighbor boy, who was one of... three? black kids in my high school (so yes, a pretty diverse car for Buffalo, Minnesota) the roads were snowy and icy. I hit a patch of ice, and slowly (but totally unstoppably) my car started to spin. It started weaving backwards down the street. It sloooowly backed into the ditch and then flopped on to it's side.
Seriously. It was slow. Inception slow.
We didn't roll. We didn't crash. We flopped. Into a snow bank. Poor Lisa was hanging by her seatbelt and we had to push her door up and open, and then crawl out.
But I don't remember if I went to school that day.  If memory serves, I skipped.
So it was probably worth it.

There. So now you all know the truth about me.
I am a very excellent driver who has never hit a deer with a car.
Or ever been pulled over by a cop. Not once.
Or ever purchased a car, but have been given three different cars by three different uncles.
Oh, but I did learn to drive on a frozen lake. Did I mention that? Yeah. I'm pretty much awesome.

Tell me your car crash stories.
Do it. Now.

Fact: it is Friday {HP Love}

Wearing my HP glasses, and the Gryffindor scarf that I knitted myself.

Becky Fact 15: I love Harry Potter more than is socially acceptable. In fact, in order to prove my point, I gathered some pictures of me rocking out HP garb.  All of these are from Facebook,  since I don't have my computer in MT.
Before I was very good at photoshopping. We look way bigger than the rest of the DA.
Not strictly of Harry, but that's when our apartment (before I was married) was decorated for a Harry Potter birthday party.
My roommates Lauren and Lana and I at our first HP party. Ginny, Cho, and Hermione.
At a Harry and the Potters concert. I am obviously having a spell cast upon me.

Becky and Lana trying to catch a snitch in the British store in SLC.
When Travis and I started dating, I insisted that he read all the Harry Potter books before our relationship could progress.
Every year for the past four years (except this year, because we were at a fancy gala for these people, and I was hoping {this guy} would be there... he wasn't.) I've thrown a Harry Potter birthday party on July 31st.
Costumes and trivia included.
If you begin a quote from any HP movie or book, I can finish it. For real. Any, except perhaps the second half of the seventh film.
When I'm feeling down or depressed, my go-to comfort is (sadly not the Bible...) The Prisoner of Azkaban.
I have read the HP books literally dozens of times. Sometimes I read the series two or even three times in a calendar year. It takes me a good two or three weeks to get through them.

I got the first three Harry Potter books for Christmas when I was in fifth grade. I went (by myself) to my cousin's house that year for Christmas break, but he was a boy and wanted to do "boy stuff," and I wasn't interested in playing with him or his friends. So I sat inside all day and read the first three books in three days.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire came out a few days before my family left for a road trip to my grandparents house. My mom bought me the book, but then hid it, so I could read it on the drive.  The day before we left, she packed the car. That night when everyone went to bed, I snuck out to the car -(since I knew it was in there now) and I searched until I found it. I snuck it back to my room, and the next morning when my mom came to wake me up, she found me reading - half way through the book.
I hadn't slept. I couldn't wait until morning.

When I was 17 years old, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out on a Friday at midnight. I got the book, and then went home and read until 6am, when I was forced to start getting ready for a youth activity at church. I was supposed to drive 5 other youth to a conference that was well over an hour away (even though I had not slept).
I drove quickly (and probably erratically) to the conference while all the people in my car (except me!) read the books.
Occasionally one of them would chuckle, gasp, or say "Hey, are you to this part yet?" and I would scream "SHUT YOUR MOUTH! STOP SAYING WHAT'S HAPPENING!!" and swerve the car threateningly.
Throughout the day, leaders would hunt me down and pull me out of closets, the bathroom, and empty classrooms where I was hiding and trying to read the books. During "testimony meeting" at the end of the day (when the youth are given a chance and forum to stand up and bear witness of Christ in a group setting) I huddled on the back pew over my book, silently crying as beloved characters died and leaders shot me dirty looks and mouthed "Close that book."
Yeah right. I wasn't closing that book until I'd finished it.

When I went home, I slept. When I awoke, I started the book again and read it a second time - cover to cover - again in less than 24 hours.

I am one of those people who stands outside in the cold (in costume) for hours waiting for the midnight showing of the movies.
I didn't go to the last two movies at midnight, because I was pregnant during one (and couldn't sit on the cement for hours) and because during the other I had two babies who would be awake at midnight (and if they weren't then I needed to be sleeping.)
But I went the next day, and for pt. 2 that was quite a feat, since we had to drive forty minutes to go to the iMax and I was still breastfeeding. But this was Harry Potter. I wasn't going to wait another day. My babies could get bottles. This was a need, not a want.

This week, my mom and I watched this video, and I have now seen it about a half a dozen times.
And I sob through it every time, especially the end. Watch. Love it.
And come out of the closet, HP lovers. (p.s. Why aren't you commenting on my blog this week? It's giving me a complex!)

Fact: it is Friday.
I think you should do it too.
And here are your instructions (not really rules...):

1. Write a fact about yourself.
2. Elaborate.
3. It can be long or short, detailed or not.
4. Don't write about your kids. (Unless you want to. Because, I mean... it's your blog. I can't stop you from writing about your kids.)
5. Link up to this blog, so we can all read some facts, and not feel bad that we dropped out of school to be stay-at-home moms. (Since if we're reading facts, then we are still learning.)
6. You're not a dropout like me? Or a stay at home mom? No biggie. You can still play.

Can't think of what to write? Start like this:
Fact: When I was a kid I was really good at...
or
Fact: My biggest pet peeve is...
or
Fact: I have a third nipple.
Etc.

I haven't quite figured out a link list yet, so just post in the comments if you participate, and next week after I've read through your facts I'll give a shout out in my post to my favorite fact from last week.
Good deal?

Fact: it is Friday {Acting out}

Becky Fact 14: I auditioned for every single play and musical from 9th to 12th grade, and never got a single role. Not even a background, lineless peasant.  Not even a rock.

It was my dream to be an actress, ever since I could remember. I sat in silent fury during Spiderman, because I thought Kirsten Dunst was a terrible MJ and they should have cast me (I was 13 years old).
In fact, I'm pretty sure I felt that I should have been cast as the leading lady in every single movie I watched, until I was practically an adult.

By the time I was a senior,  I stopped auditioning for plays, but only because I decided to take a new route in life. Instead of thinking that I was a better actress than those around me, I decided that I was a better person, than the actresses around me.
(It's taken me a while to decide that some "theater people" are actually decent and not just terrible people, and more annoying versions of Rachel Berry.)

I know I'm not a very good actress, but really -how many 14 year olds are? It still seems cruel to me that I was never cast in anything. The theater teacher at our school knew me by name. She knew that I was going to audition. Many of my good friends were cast as leads (or at least parts) in plays, but I never was.
I've mostly gotten over it, because my life has turned out pretty awesome - even if I'm not going to be MJ in Spiderman 4.  And I've figured out that I don't really love acting.

But rather,  I love to be on display.  Is that a weird quality to have? (Or just a weird quality to admit to having?)

Obviously, I write this blog full of personal stories, admissions of weird habits and faults, TMI about my breasts, my religion, my relationship with my husband.  And about a billion pictures of my blue-eyed sons (my darling young ones) a week.
And I WANT people to read it. And to like me.
And I much prefer it to acting.

Even though, I'm still (metaphorically, perhaps) standing on a stage being watched by lots of people,  now I get to do and say whatever the heck I want, and from the comfort of my couch.
And the theater director from my high school can't tell me that I'm bad at this, even if I was bad at auditioning for plays.
Because I've found my niche, and I've got a kick-ass blog.

Can I get a Hey-ya! ?

Oops. I'm getting worked up over this.
So maybe I'm not over it?
Well, regardless. I've stopped trying out for theater-y things.
I've even made friends with another beautiful, redheaded "theater person," even though I always felt like I was fighting my redheaded childhood bestie for attention. (Through no fault of hers, of course.)
But you know how much boys like gorgeous redheads, and she could get the lead in any play without auditioning... so... sore spot...

Okay. I seem to have veered off-course with the end of this post.
But I think you should write a Friday Fact (and link up in the comments, if you do).  What did you want and try to be as a kid? And did you fail horribly (like moi) or did you kick butt?
