Conversations with Three-Year Olds
The boys are really worried about making sure everyone is gentle with August, including me. This morning as I burped August (and was smacking his back), Micah grabbed my hand and hissed, "Stop, Mom! Please be gentler with my baby!"
They've also been acting out the "Do you want to build a snowman" scene from Frozen.
One of them goes in the bathroom and shuts the door.
The other knocks and sings "Do you want to build a snowman or ride our bikes in the hall?"
The boy in the bathroom says, "Go away, Anna!"
"Okay, bye."
Then they trade places and play it again.
A few days ago, I had been hiding in my room with August all day and not cleaning up at all. I usually try really hard to have the counters wiped off and always tell the boys "If you cook food in a dirty kitchen, you'll have dirty tasting food."
From my room, I heard Micah ask Travis to wipe off the counters 2 or 3 times. Finally he said, "Okay. I can't eat here. Let's clean the counter TOGETHER."
Grey and August and I were in the kitchen, and August was in his bouncer behind us. Micah came quietly into the room and said "Hey guys."
Grey gasped and turned to me and whispered, "He can talk!" And was very disappointed when he turned around and saw that it was Micah speaking, not the baby.
Me: What do you want for lunch?
Grey: A peanut butter and jelly will make me happy.
Micah: Hey. You happy?
Grey: Mm-mm.
Micah: You sad?
Grey: Mm-hmm.
Micah: You are a baby then? You need your daddy?
Grey: I not a baby!
Micah: Oh. You're a big boy and you can run so fast?
Grey: Mm-hmm.
Micah: Oh good.
Micah: Look! A big letter E for Grey.
Grey: That's not the letter for Grey. It's an E for Octopus.
Travis: I can't figure out how to get to different seasons (of Samuri Jack on the iPad.)
Grey: You change the seasons by doing different episodes, Dad.
Micah: Wow, Mom. That's a pretty big breast.
Micah: What's in this breast?
Me: Milk
Micah: What in this breast?
Me: More milk.
Micah: No. Juice. One breast has milk, and one has juice.
Grey: I'm not baby August.
Me: You're not? Who are you?
Grey: Grey!
Micah: He's Grey big human big boy. And I'm Micah David.
Grey: There's a dragon in our room! Don't let him eat you.
Micah: I'm just going in to punch him.
Grey: Well, don't let him eat you when you punch him!
Micah: Don't worry, I won't!
Grey: Whoa! Stop! Be careful, that room is filled with ghosts, too!
Micah: Okay. You fight those little ghosts, I'll fight the big ghost.
Grey: I'll fight the big ghost with you, or else he'll eat my food.
Micah: Okay. He went outside.
Grey: No! He's back! I see him right there! I see a big, real ghost!
Micah: I want some eggs!
Travis: No way! You didn't eat your other food.
Micah: Fine! I don't want eggs! Except, I really do want them.
Me: You are going to go to Grandma's after your nap.
Micah: Grandma Polly's house?
Me: No, Grandma Pitcher and Tate and Noelle will be there.
Micah: Aunt Noelle? I love that girl!
Me: Elizabeth said if you guys want to get dressed you can go play down stairs.
Micah: No thanks.
Me: What? You don't want to go play?
Micah: I do! But I don't want to get dressed. Not ever, not ever, not ever. I want to wear these jammies forever, ever, ever.
Me: Let's clean up, quick.
Micah: I'm tired of cleaning! I'll just take a quick nap while you clean.
Micah: Look! Grey and Micah and Mom and Daddy!
Me: Yep, that's a picture of our family. But who's missing?
Micah: Huh?
Me: There's a new person in our family that's not in the picture. Who is it?
Micah: I don't know.
Me: Yes you do! Who's your new brother?
Micah: I don't know!
Me: It's a little baby. What baby do you know?
Micah: Baby Jesus?
Micah: Let's play houses! I can be a pregnant mom, and baby August can be the daddy, and my real daddy can be the other mom. That sound okay?
Me: That sounds great.
Micah: Mom! Other Mom! Other Daddy-Mom!
Me: He's talking to you, Travis.
Travis: Oh, hi!
Micah: Let's wrestle!
Travis: We can't wrestle with your baby! You're pregnant!
Micah: I'm not pregnant! This is just a ball!

I laughed out loud at the "He can talk!" :D And I loved when Micah told you to be gentler when you were burping the baby. So funny. :)
"I love that girl!" I can't thank you enough for these little conversations. Now a blog, next a book!
