Well-Dressed Babies

I am a tiny bit obsessed with dressing my kids. When they were newborns, they primarily wore clothes that we had been given, and since they pooped, puked, or peed through every outfit in half an hour - I wasn't too concerned about what they wore. They wore anything with minimal snaps, little footies, and soft fabric.
When the boys were like 6 months old, we went to story time at the library and two older twin boys ran by us. They were probably only two, but they seemed gigantic compared to my kids.
And they were dressed... Okay, is it weird that I can still picture exactly what those little blond haired cuties were wearing?
They were wearing cuffed skinny jeans and tiny brightly colored Toms. They both had big, bulky grey "grandpa sweaters" buttoned and toggled over tshirts.
I stared at them and thought, "But that's how I dress. Can you dress kids like that? Do they make awesome clothes that tiny, or did that mom knit those clothes?"
It was a serious revelation to me.
Which sounds dumb, because who even cares about how their kids are dressed? That's silly.
But I looked at those blond little boys and their cute mismatched, yet coordinating outfits and thought, "Those are my children in the future."

But it turns out that I'm pretty poor. And those bulky grandpa sweaters cost freaking bank if you're buying two. Even when the baby Gap finally puts things up for sale, they're still $14 a piece and they never have quite the size or style you want.

So I learned to shop. I signed up for approximately 100 emails from children's stores. And I made myself promises.

Promise One: I will not buy children's clothes that aren't awesome. If I can get two crappy shirts from one store that I hate for the same price as one shirt from Baby Gap that I drool over, I'm getting the one shirt that I love.
This sounds stupid, and shallow. I know. But I love beautiful things. Beautiful things make me happy. I don't care about name brands, but it's the same reason that I make an effort to have a pretty home and I like to watch artistic foreign films.
It's just prettier. And lovely things are happier.



Anyway, Promise Two: I also won't excessively buy things. (This is very hard for me.) I can go without an extensive wardrobe personally, but if I see tiny colored toddler jeans on sale, I want to buy a rainbow.
But I only need two pair.
Because I only have two children.

Promise Three: Plan ahead. This is the primary reason that my children can dress well. Because I just spent $100 on the boys clothes for next winter and I now have the following tucked away:
7 pairs of pants
6 shirts
8 sweaters
4 sweatshirts
4 pairs of shoes
And 2 pairs of rainboots

Which, if you're counting, is insanely cheap. And in case you're wondering, none of that is from thrift stores. (I hate sifting through piles of junk to find one gem of a deal. Especially since while I'm sifting, my kids are usually in dishware breaking things.)
But this weekend, we went to the outlet mall and got all the winter clothes that were clogging the shelves - being sold off for like $1.50 per sweater to make room for spring. Then H&M, where the same thing was happening. Then Kmart, where kids shoes were like $3 a pair and rainboots were $6.



And I have no real point to this post except to say: I got a ton of clothes this week, and I'm really excited.
And soon the boys will move into the summer clothes that I bought them last fall for pretty cheap. (Summer clothes are less adorable than fall and winter clothes)
And my kids will dress really cute. I'm delighted by it. I love to pick out their mismatched but coordinating outfits each morning.
And luckily, since I buy all their clothes, even when they pick their own clothes (which is starting to happen) they're still wearing stripey tshirts and skinny jeans and cardigans.
Because they have no choice! (Muwahaha!)

And I'm using this post to share pictures of my kids being adorable and well dressed.
So sorry.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Fall Fashions

Happy Halloween! I planned on posting lots of pictures of the boys in their costumes, but every time I've tried to get them dressed in the costumes for the last two days, they've run screaming (literally). So.
Here are some cute pictures of them from Sunday, in their very cute Sunday best.
Is there a prize for most adorably dressed children? Because I should win that. (Don't mind the bed-head from naptime.)

The weather this week has been beautiful! But the boys are so obsessed with their new table and chairs, that I couldn't get them to leave the house.
So we brought the table out with us, and colored outside for a while. 

 "Can you put your arm around brother, Micah?"

Bouquets of sharpened pencils, anyone?

A hat! I knit it!

At our house we have lots of single mittens. One baby bootie. A third of a Christmas stocking.
And one very impressive Gryffindor scarf.

Let's just say that I love to knit, and I love to get ideas for new knitting projects, and I am not super awesome at completing said projects.
Not to mention that all of the adorable baby projects that I am completely gaga over will be grown out of / stained / accidently shrunken about two minutes after I finish them (if I finish them at all).



So when my summery desire to listen to the Harry Potter books and knit hit me, I forced myself not to buy more yarn... *Ahem.* Okay, fine. TWO skeins of yarn. Are you happy? It barely counts. They were on sale, people. 

Anyway. I mostly didn't buy yarn, and I definitely didn't buy any needles... (for myself).  I told myself that every time I wanted to check my Instagram or Facebook, I would knit for five minutes instead. So if I was absorbed on the couch, ignoring my children, and zoning out of the real world, at least I would have something to show for it.
AND BOY, DO I.
I have an entire HAT to show for it.



And even though it's a bit too big (I'm hoping it will fit the boys through two winters), and the ears curl up and are a little goofy... I am totally obsessed with how great it is.
And every time people come over, I make them admire it.  And since you're not here to admire it in person... here are TEN pictures of it, so you can be impressed.



This hat is for Grey (Micah's is half-way done, too!), and Grey has done a very good job appreciating it. In fact, we were outside in billion-degree weather all afternoon yesterday, and Grey insisted on wearing his hat the whole time!
It was so cute.

I can't wait until fall, when I'll break out the converse shoes and cardigans again.



My favorite thing about this hat? I feel like it looks like it was knit by Mrs. Weasley, and in case you're wondering: Mrs. Weasley is a good example of the type of mother I want to be. Warm, loving, tough, excellent at cooking, and very good at raising boys into brave, happy, good men.

Christmas Pjs

Here's a story:
I went to Target to buy gifts for a baby shower.
I came home with these awesome pajamas.  They were on sale, and my family has this tradition where we all get to open one present on Christmas Eve (a present of my parents choosing) and it's always Christmas pajamas.
But turns out, I can't wait until Christmas Eve for this cuteness. I was changing Micah, and I got distracted and let him be diaper -free for a minute and BAM! Pee everywhere. So he needed new clothes... so I put these snugly pjs on him, since the boys are sick and pajamas are the best things to wear when sick.
Then, obviously, Grey also needed to wear his new pjs because his pants were too big... so off came his big pants, and on went his reindeer pants.

Then, since they were being FREAKING ADORABLE we got out the Christmas lights and the camera.
Oh my goodness. I love them so.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Brothers

This first pic is my favorite. I call it "When Aunt Mary leaves the room."

So the boys are brothers, in the totally white-man, we are related, in fact we are twins, our parents are the same sense.

But lately, they're turning into brothers in the "real" sense. They love each other, they look out for each other, they want to spend their time together.

It's adorable. 

Their newest thing, is to touch each other when their brother is sad. Example: Grey starts to cry, and with a worried look - Micah reaches out and starts gently patting his head or stroking his hair.

Ohmygoodenesscute. They also have started holding hands in the stroller, which is adorable because they can't even see each other in the stroller, but have to reach around a partition thingy to grab one another. 

Anyway, the other day when I was taking pictures, I got seriously carried away, so I figured I'd share them over two posts. 

Today is filled with adorable brother pictures.
